Steven Karber, MD received the McFarland Clinic Trusted Choice Community Service Award this November. Dr Karber was selected for his longstanding commitment to the Jefferson community. For his dedication to community service, he was given $500 to donate to an organization of his choice. He selected the Greene County 4-H Foundation.
Dr Karber is well known as a lamb producer and is active with the Greene County Lamb Producers. He takes time to personally prepare and serve lamb dishes and loves educating the public about the sheep industry. He helped develop at his own barn the Community Barn Project in which “town kids” can learn how to care for and grow lambs.
“Dr Karber has spent a lifetime encouraging local youth in sports, 4-H, academics and medical school. At all times he has been the shoulder to lean on for kids looking to find their way,” a McFarland Clinic press release stated. “Volunteering is a way of life for Dr Karber. His passion is apparent in his thoughtfulness of others through the giving of his time, fellowship, knowledge and helping hands. Jefferson is a better place because of him.”
This is the fourth year McFarland Clinic has presented Trusted Choice honors. Four awards – Caring Professional, Employee Excellence, Community Service and Founders’ Award – are given annually. Recipients are nominated by colleagues for modeling behaviors that reflect the McFarland Clinic vision statement.
The Trusted Choice Community Service Award is given to an individual who impacts and influences the community through volunteer services. Dr Karber was chosen from three nominees to represent philanthropic McFarland staff members. He was nominated by Keri Brooker.
